Pour l’anecdote, lors de la vente de sa collection par Maggs Bros, le célèbre bibliophile Humphrey Winterton se souvient dans l’introduction du catalogue du plaisir unique qu’il eût d’acquérir l’exemplaire personnel du capitaine Hozier[1].

Contemporary 3/4 morocco over cloth boards, 4to.; 3 volumes of which the third volume a case containing 5 linen backed maps. The spine of the case volume in identical red morocco. The spines divided in six compartments by five raised bands. The whole richly gilt decorated with the titles in the second and third compartments. Additional lithographed title pages. All edges gilt and with marbled endpapers. Gay 2641, Hess & Coger 714.

Vol. I : lithographed title page, pp. xx, 440. Illustrated with 17 lithographs, of which 7 tinted and some of the others with limited hand colouring.

Vol. II: lithographed title page, pp.viii, 513. Illustrated with 15 lithographs, of which 7 tinted and some of the others with limited hand colouring. This volume also contains a folding table.

So, in total there are 32 lithographs plus two additional lithographed title pages.

Vol. III: Index sheet, 5 linen backed maps, entitled:

         1) Map of Abyssinia.

         2) Line of March of the Force.

         3) Senafe and its Neighbourhood.

         4) Magdala and surrounding Country.

         5) Plan showing the disposition of the British troops.in Abyssinia on the 13th April, 1868.

On the inner front board of the text volumes there is the armorial bookplate of John Helias McEwen, Esq. of Marchmont.
